PIA is making an IMPACT at the Statehouse

You can help by making a contribution

PIA of Ohio could not be successful in its legislative and public affairs efforts without IMPACT. IMPACT helps independent agents across the state have a voice in the political arena by supporting the election of sensible leaders who will listen to agent and industry concerns. By combining your financial contribution with those of PIA members from across the state, IMPACT allows you to compete with big-money interests in the legislative arena. Contributions to IMPACT have helped increase agent clout, resulting in successes such as Ohio passing meaningful tort reform, electing a balanced Supreme Court and ensuring fairness in proposed compensation disclosure requirement laws.

"With the dawn of 2007, we have a new state administration in Ohio. The same thing will happen next year at the federal level. Regardless of which party is in power, the dollars we as members of PIA contribute to IMPACT will enhance the development of influence which secures the future for ourselves and our fellow agents. Won't you please join me now in making that happen?"

David C. Kotary
2007 PIA of Ohio President

Is Your Name on Our Contributors List?
PIA would like to thank those members who have contributed to IMPACT. To date, IMPACT has raised only about $19,000. The magnitude of elections this year and the issues at stake (such as the sick leave proposal) have increased the demands of IMPACT, especially given the plausibility that the outcomes of these elections can once again alter the balance of political power in Ohio. It is especially crucial that PIA offers financial support to candidates who can help improve Ohio's economy - a necessary ingredient for agency growth to transpire and flourish. At this point, we are $4,000 behind where we were at this time last year, a non-election yearIt is extremely critical that we reach our fundraising goal of $25,000 for 2008. Is your name on our contributors list?

Please consider making a contribution immediately, as well as encouraging your employees to contribute, so we can reach our goal and continue our efforts to support candidates facing competitive races this season.

Please remember that corporate contributions are prohibited by law.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IMPACT?
The Insurance Marketers Political Action Coordinating Team, otherwise known as IMPACT, is PIA of Ohio's political action committee. IMPACT is the chief mechanism through which PIA facilitates political giving by individual PIA members to influence the result of legislative and statewide elections.

Why does IMPACT exist?
The purpose of IMPACT is to generate sufficient financial resources to provide meaningful support for statewide and legislative candidates who share PIA's views on critical issues and support the independent agent profession.

Why give to IMPACT instead of just giving to candidates directly?
By pooling their financial resources via IMPACT, individual agents can, in effect, make contributions in support of candidates in larger amounts than they might otherwise be able to make on their own. As a result, the overall impact (or, IMPACT) of the dollars being donated to a particular candidate is enhanced, something that raises the stature of PIA, helps it promote its agenda, and benefits individual agents.

When does PIA raise funds for IMPACT?
Because laws and regulations affecting agents never stop, fundraising efforts for IMPACT never stop.

How does PIA determine which candidates receive support from IMPACT?
Disbursement determinations regarding IMPACT funds are made by PIA's government affairs professionals, who continually evaluate candidates for statewide and legislative offices and make strategic decisions on which candidates to support and how much support to provide. These decisions are based on the amount of IMPACT funds available, a candidate's record on PIA issues, personal requests by PIA members, and the likelihood of a particular candidate to win his or her race for elected office.

How can I make my contribution and what forms of payment are accepted?
Contributions can be made to IMPACT by mailing a personal check to the PIA office. Checks should be made out to IMPACT. Contributions can also be made over the phone with a personal credit card. Please remember that corporate contributions are prohibited by law.
