PIA remains committed to its effort to perpetuate the industry through the annual Internship Program.

Through regular conversations with agents and company representatives, PIA has determined that industry perpetuation is a top concern facing the insurance industry. In an effort to address this issue, PIA continues to strengthen the Internship Program and invest in the industry’s future.

One of the program's goals is to increase visibility of the industry among young people and introduce them to the wide variety of career opportunities in the industry. Throughout the 10 and a half week program, the interns spend five weeks with a carrier and five weeks with a PIA member agency to gain a well-rounded view of the insurance industry.

The success of the program has been astounding. Nearly one-third of the interns who have graduated are working in the industry. Several of our 2009 interns are completing their senior year of college, and have already begun to actively search for jobs in the industry - jobs they were exposed to through participation in the program.

The numbers speak for themselves...

37 students have completed the program.

24 agencies and 11 companies have participated as program hosts.

Committee members have recruited and selected interns from 12 colleges and universities around the state.
