Perpetuation and staffing have continued to be growing concerns since PIA first received confirmation from agent forums held throughout Ohio in 2004.
In that same year, PIA’s Agents Resource Committee introduced the idea of creating an internship program to address these issues by attracting young professionals to the industry and generating interest in insurance careers. A task force was created to develop the program, and in 2006, the pilot internship program began with four interns from two Ohio colleges spending five weeks with an agency and five weeks with a company.
Fast-forward to today, and not only have 37 college students completed the program, but nearly one-third of those students who have entered the workforce are now working in the insurance industry.
To ensure this program can continue to make a difference for our industry, the Foundation for the Advancement of Insurance Professionals was established to collect funds to be used to continue to provide financial support to PIA’s Internship Program.
With strong support from companies, PIA member agencies and various industry supporters, the Foundation is on its way to financial success.
